Origins
SCARF emerged from an event hosted by the Soil Association and Seeding Reparations.
‘Responding to Racism and the Far-Right Co-option of Food and Farming Spaces’ took place in December 2025. The event brought people together from farming membership organisations, civil society and academia.
Vision
A food and farming system where every person, regardless of their race, ethnicity or background, has equal access to healthy food, fair working conditions, and the opportunity to live and work with dignity and respect.
Aims

Develop narrative strategies that advance racial equity and societal fairness in UK food & farming

Co-ordinate and support SCARF activities.

Monitor racism, far-right extremism and identify best practice in responding to them.
Approach
We convene actors from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to promote racial equity and address the rise of far-right extremism within the food and farming sector.
We focus on facilitating collaboration between individuals and organisations who are addressing inequalities. There are a wide range of perspectives and positionalities that exist among us. For some of us our focus is farms and rural areas. Others work with food, including food-growing projects in urban settings.
